Zambia safe from PPR animal disease

Minister of fisheries and livestock, Hon. Kampamba Mulenga flanked by Zambia Embassy in Belgium, Charge d’Affaires Mr Henry Ngilazi attending the global conference on “partnering and investing for apeste des petits ruminants (PPR)free world” at the European Union offices in Brussels, 7th September, 2018.

PPR is a serious fatal disease in sheep and goats that causes high mortalities rates. Zambia is NOT infected but is at high risk of PPR because the disease is present in east Africa (Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda) as well Angola and Democratic Republic of Congo – DRC and threatens the over 50 million goats and sheep in SADC member states as well as Zambia’s export market access of goats to Saudi Arabia.
